About the Role:

An opportunity has become available for an experienced and motivated Senior Ecologist to join our team in Orange, NSW. As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological services across a variety of projects. You’ll provide technical expertise, mentor junior staff, and liaise with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. This role combines fieldwork, project management, and strategic input, offering a rewarding and varied work environment.

About You:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Accreditation (or eligibility) as a Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) assessor in NSW
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and biodiversity assessment methods
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • A current driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert ecological advice and technical input across environmental projects
  • Prepare fee proposals, project reports, and manage client contracts
  • Lead field assessments and ensure compliance with State and Commonwealth legislation
  • Monitor project performance, budgets, and schedules
  • Mentor and supervise ecologists and subcontracted professionals
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Contribute to business development and marketing initiatives

Required Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of systems and procedures relating to the role, including practical knowledge, principles and methods of biodiversity survey and assessment.
  • Ability to manage a diverse project portfolio, able to plan workload, meet deadlines and achieve objectives.
  • Technical ability coupled with a strong understanding of State and Commonwealth environmental legislation and policy relevant to the field.
  • Problem-solving abilities and analysis, identification of underlying principles, reasons or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial framework within a professional services firm.
  • Commitment to quality and safety, with an applied understanding of best practice planning. 
  • Strong people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
