BRING YOUR FIELD LEADERSHIP AND LANDCARE EXPERTISE TO THE PCL TEAM

Above-award wage | Flexible, ongoing full-time position | Based in Mackay, delivering projects across the Whitsundays, Eungella, and Clarke Connors Ranges

About the Position

Pioneer Catchment Landcare is seeking a capable and experienced Senior Field Officer to lead the on-ground delivery of environmental restoration and land management projects across the Mackay-Whitsunday region. This leadership-focused role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and has a proven ability to coordinate teams and oversee field operations in diverse landscapes.

As a Senior Field Officer, you’ll supervise field staff, manage daily logistics, and ensure the safe, effective implementation of conservation projects. Your work will support bushland and coastal regeneration, integrated weed and pest management, revegetation, wildlife surveys, and habitat enhancement across some of Queensland’s most pristine environments - including the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef coastline, the lush rainforests of Eungella National Park, and the rugged Clarke Connors Ranges.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, practical land management knowledge, and a commitment to safety and environmental best practices. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that projects meet milestones, staff are well-supported, and that PCL’s high standards are upheld in every task.

About You

You are a confident and experienced environmental professional with demonstrated skills in landcare project delivery and leading small teams in the field. You take pride in mentoring others, setting clear expectations, and creating a positive and productive team culture.

You’re physically fit, safety-focused, and comfortable working across remote or rugged environments. You understand how to manage risks, operate and maintain tools and machinery, and deliver outcomes efficiently and effectively. You have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for restoring and protecting the natural landscapes of our region.

This role offers the chance to live and work in the stunning Mackay-Whitsunday region - where rainforests meet reef, and your downtime can be spent exploring national parks, islands, or the coastline.

What We Offer

  • A full-time, flexible role based in Mackay (9-day fortnight)
  • Above-award wages: $71,500 +, depending on experience
  • Opportunities to lead restoration projects across unique and diverse ecosystems
  • A professional, values-driven team culture focused on community and conservation
  • Ongoing training in WHS, ecological practices, and leadership development
  • Meaningful work that contributes to real, long-term environmental impact

To Be Successful in this Role, You’ll Have:

  • Proven experience supervising or leading field teams in landcare or environmental restoration
  • Strong practical knowledge in revegetation, weed and pest control, and habitat recovery
  • Excellent understanding of site safety, risk assessments, and equipment management
  • The ability to work independently and meet project deadlines to a high standard
  • A current manual driver’s licence (essential), ACDC licence, and First Aid (desirable)
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in varied outdoor conditions
  • Working knowledge of local native and invasive plant species
