About the role

Soil Conservation Service is seeking an Environmental Officer to support the delivery of large-scale bushfire mitigation and land management programs. This role involves both office-based project support and on-ground delivery of works.

In this role, you will:

  • Help deliver a variety of land management and bushfire mitigation projects from planning through to completion.
  • Work with senior staff to scope projects, manage procurement processes, and contribute to environmental risk controls.
  • Support quality, safety, and environmental compliance, working within our accredited Quality, WHS, and Environmental frameworks.
  • Be part of a collaborative and hands-on team working in diverse field conditions.
  • Coordinate and communicate with contractors to support effective project delivery.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members as needed.
  • Complete regular reporting and assist with audits to meet compliance requirements.
  • Help with scheduling of staff and resources across multiple projects.
  • Track project budgets and support financial reporting.

About you

To be successful in the role, our ideal candidate will:

  • Adhere to the DPIRD and Soil Conservation Service operational policies and procedures when planning, designing, costing, and delivering environmental projects.
  • Accurately determine stakeholder needs and consistently deliver projects on a profitable and sustainable basis.
  • Provide flexible support across the organisation by contributing to a variety of projects that may operate across different locations within Sydney or greater NSW.
  • Engage in technical training and staff development, offer advice to senior management and colleagues.
  • Champion workplace health and safety by establishing and maintaining safe work procedures, identifying hazards, and conducting appropriate risk assessments.
