Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (NAC) represents Ngarrindjeri Traditional Owners and Native Title holders in South Australia. NAC is a member-based organisation whose objectives include, to manage the native title rights and interests of common law holders, strengthen and protect Ngarrindjeri Culture, Heritage, Lands and Waters.

We are excited to announce that we have received funding from National Indigenous Australian Agency to establish the Indigenous Ranger Program within the Southern Fleurieu Region.

As part of this important initiative, we are seeking to appoint a part-time Ranger Coordinator and Casual Rangers.

About the roles:

Ranger Coordinator for Yarluwar-Ruwe Ranger Program (Part time, 12 months contract)

Reporting to the Ranger Program Manager, the Ranger Coordinator will play a key role in establishing and overseeing ranger activities, working closely with community stakeholders, supporting environmental cultural heritage outcomes, and helping shape the future of land and cultural management in the region.

The Ranger Coordinator will:

  • Work under the guidance of the Ranger Program Manager.
  • Provide leadership to the Ranger team.
  • Ensure all workplace health and safety procedures are followed to provide a safe working environment.
  • Learn from and work under guidance of Directors and elders/senior knowledge holders to look after cultural knowledge and important sites across Yarluwar-Ruwe.
  • Lead and manage the Rangers to help look after Country (land, water and sea), heritage, culture and people working under the guidance of the Ranger Program Manager.
  • Provide regular reports to the Ranger Program Manager on the activities undertaken.
  • Coordinate the preparation of work plans and internal budgets.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and supervision of the Ranger Team work plans and other activities.
  • Engage and collaborate with regional partners to identify works, facilitate land access and strengthen partnerships; and.
  • Other duties as directed by the Ranger Program Manager.

Casual Rangers (Women are encouraged to apply for this role)

Reporting to the Manager, the Rangers will receive training and hands-on experience to help care for country, culture and community and important sites across Yarluwar-Ruwe.

Casual Rangers will:

  • Engage with the Ngarrindjeri community, Government Departments, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with the Ranger Coordinator to develop and implement a two-way science program.
  • Look after threatened species, through animal surveys and monitoring.
  • Feral animal monitoring.
  • Fire planning (being a part of planning to burn country the right way).
  • Weed management and monitoring.
  • Look after waterways & Ruwe and other places of cultural significance.
  • Other on-country work as required such as fence and track maintenance and infrastructure development.
