BRING YOUR FIELD SKILLS AND PASSION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS TO THE PCL TEAM
Above-award wage | Flexible, ongoing position | Based in Mackay, reaching from the Whitsunday Islands to Eungella and the Clarke Connors Rangers, QLD.
About the Position
Pioneer Catchment Landcare (PCL) is seeking a motivated and practical Project Officer to support the successful delivery of on-ground environmental works across the Mackay and greater region. This hands-on role involves working directly with the PCL Field Team to implement bushland and coastal regeneration, site rehabilitation, fauna, flora and habitat surveys, integrated pest management, Land for Wildlife programs, and various other environmental activities, while also coordinating project logistics, liaising with stakeholders, and contributing to monitoring and reporting.
As a Project Officer with PCL, you'll work across some of the most pristine and ecologically significant landscapes in Queensland - from the tidal wetlands of the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, to the misty rainforests of Eungella National Park, known as the 'Land in the Clouds,' and the rugged wilderness of the Clarke Connors Ranges. Each project offers the opportunity to protect biodiversity, enhance habitat, and connect people with place.
With a dynamic mix of fieldwork and coordination duties, this role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, values meaningful environmental outcomes, and is ready to make a lasting impact on the land.
About You
You're a capable, hands-on individual with a background in land management, horticulture, or environmental conservation. Whether it's planting native trees, tackling invasive weeds, or working alongside landholders and volunteers, you take pride in delivering practical, on-ground outcomes that benefit the environment and the community.
We're looking for someone who is reliable, safety-focused, and thrives in a small, close-knit team. You'll be organised, proactive, and equally comfortable managing logistics, preparing field documentation, and getting your boots dirty on site.
This role offers the unique opportunity to live and work in the beautiful Mackay region - where rainforests meet reef, and your weekends can be spent exploring national parks, islands, or vibrant coastal communities. If you're looking to combine your passion for conservation with a lifestyle surrounded by natural beauty, this is the role for you.
What We Offer
A flexible, ongoing position based at our North Mackay office.
Opportunities to work in diverse environments - from creeks to coastal dunes.
Professional development and training in practical conservation and WHS.
A collaborative, supportive team culture.
Meaningful work that contributes to real environmental change in your region.
To be Successful in this Role
You'll need to demonstrate:.
Experience in on-ground conservation, landcare or environmental project delivery.
Ability to work effectively in small teams and independently.
Sound knowledge of environmental safety procedures and practical site management.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accurate field documentation.
A current manual driver's licence (essential); ACDC, White Card, First Aid (desirable).
