Arnhem Land Fire Abatement (ALFA) is seeking two highly experienced Bush Fire Project Officers who are passionate about caring for country through the management of fire. These positions will support Aboriginal ranger groups in Arnhem Land to operate sophisticated, landscape-scale fire management projects combining customary knowledge and modern technology.
About ALFA
ALFA is an Aboriginal-owned not-for-profit carbon business working in partnership with Traditional Landowners and Aboriginal ranger groups across more than 85,000 km2 of Arnhem Land. As the registered proponent for six fire management carbon abatement projects, ALFA supports the generation of carbon income under the federal government’s Savanna Fire Management Methodology. This income is reinvested to partner ranger groups to fund land management and broader community outcomes within the fire project areas.
About the role
ALFA employs a small team of Bush Fire Project Officers to support the on-ground fire operations of eleven Aboriginal ranger groups and Traditional Landowners in Arnhem Land. These include:
The Bush Fire Project Officers play a vital role in helping ranger groups deliver their fire projects by building the skills and capacity of Aboriginal rangers through on-the-job support, as well as accredited and non-accredited training.
About you
You will be highly experienced in all aspects of fire management including planning, consultation, prescribed burning, fire suppression, data collection and reporting. You will be practical and self-motivated, enthusiastic about working in the spectacular landscapes of Arnhem Land, and possess a strong commitment to working with Aboriginal people and supporting the development of Aboriginal rangers.
