Parks and Partnerships provides management responsibilities for Canberra Nature Park, Namadgi National Park, Murrumbidgee River Corridor, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Molonglo River Reserve, Googong Foreshores and the Lower Cotter Catchment. The day-to-day management of the forestry and rural areas within the eastern part of ACT is also a responsibility of the section.

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified people to fill the role of Area Manager. The successful applicants will lead a team of Technical Officers, Park Rangers and Field Officers in implementing conservation programs on reserved and un-reserved lands, manage budgets, coordinate planning and represent and negotiate on behalf of our National Parks and Nature Reserves to achieve feasible and appropriate solutions to the delivery of long-term management objectives.

This process will be used to create a merit pool that will be used to fill temporary vacancies over a 12 month period, the period of the vacancies vary.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

Mandatory:

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra Wear a uniform.
  • Possess a manual driver' license.
  • This position is classified as a Designated Fire Position under the Collective Agreement. Bushfire related activities, including bushfire suppression, is a mandatory component of the position. Appointment / promotion / transfer to the position is conditional upon successful completion of a nationally recognized firefighting task-based fitness assessment.

Highly Desirable:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in environmental and/or natural resource management.

Note: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
