THE ROLE

We are looking for a Yindjibarndi Ranger Coordinator to lead and manage the successful delivery of the Yindjibarndi Ranger Program. This role requires strong leadership, organisational, and cultural awareness to ensure the program is aligned with Yindjibarndi’s vision and guiding principles of community, culture, and commerce.As the Ranger Coordinator, you will oversee the coordination of a diverse and dedicated team of rangers and supervisors while ensuring the program’s activities align with cultural protocols, community expectations, and funding commitments. The position will require regular travel to Ngurrawaana Community and across the Yindjibarndi Country to ensure the program’s activities are effectively carried out.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria

• Dedicated interest in Aboriginal-led natural and cultural resource management
• Experience in managing small teams and/or coordinating natural and cultural resource management projects (ideally within Indigenous organisations)
• Understanding of Aboriginal social and cultural contexts in remote Western Australia, with a commitment to community empowerment, training, and development
• Ability to work safely and independently with minimal supervision in remote areas, staying focused, positive, and organised in challenging environments
• Ability and willingness to undertake physical labour, outdoors and in adverse weather conditions, as well as handle a variety of plant and animal specimens, chemicals and equipment, within workplace health and safety guidelines.
• Working knowledge of/experience in usage of computer systems, information technology and communications equipment
• Developed written and oral communication skills
• Well-developed interpersonal and leadership skills

Desirable Criteria

• Qualifications or equivalent experience in Landcare, including fire management, weed control, feral animal management, biodiversity monitoring, or similar
• 4WD training and experience
• A working knowledge of/previous experience in emergency management principles and practices, and fire hazard assessment
• A working knowledge of/previous experience with Aboriginal land rights, native title determination and Indigenous Protected Areas
• Previous experience working for and with a First Nations community and/or an Aboriginal ranger program
• Previous experience working in a remote Aboriginal community context
