Ongoing (permanent) position

Are you an experienced park manager keen to work in stunning Northern Territory?

  • Protect the natural, cultural and historic features of protected areas.
  • Showcase the Territory’s specular environment to visitors.
  • Competitive salary package including up to 6 weeks recreational leave.

The Chief District Ranger, Victoria River District (VRD) will support the District Manager to lead a team of rangers responsible for the management of Judbarra/Gregory National Park and Keep River National Park. The role is based in Timber Creek, 300 km west of Katherine township. Both parks feature rugged, spectacular range and gorge scenery, significant Aboriginal culture, European exploration and pastoral history.

The successful applicant will oversee park management, visitor and interpretive programs to protect natural and cultural values, prepare correspondence, report on programs and budgets, and oversee the management of fire, both planned and wildfire. Judbarra/Gregory NP hosts a savannah fire management program with a strong focus on environmental and cultural benefits for the park’s traditional Aboriginal owners.

Excellent communication and team skills are a requirement of this position, including the ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including traditional Aboriginal owners, to ensure operational programs are successfully and safely implemented.

We are offering a competitive salary with six weeks paid annual leave, relocation assistance and remote locality allowances. The position works Monday to Friday. Weekend work may be required to respond to emergencies, such as wildfires.

Please note: An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months, including at other locations within the NT.
