To help Acacia continue to deliver an expanding program of environmental works in Melbourne’s Western and Northern regions we are looking for a Leading Hand who has passion and respect for the natural environment and is keen to be an active member of our in-field leadership team.

The Role

As a Leading Hand you will play a pivotal role on our leadership team, and you will be responsible for:

  • Provision of in-field leadership to Bush Crews delivering revegetation and weed control projects to ensure that all deadlines and works outcomes are met.
  • Ensuring work is carried out in line with company policies and quality standards (including undertaking daily administrative tasks)
  • Managing all safety aspects of our work and fostering a culture of safe work practices.
  • Responsibility for operational vehicle and management of all on-board tools, equipment and safety gear
  • Support development of our Bush Crew members through coaching and mentoring and active participation in training and knowledge sharing, 
  • Liaising with clients, updating operational data and maintaining excellent communication on all aspects of the project.
  • Operate and maintain a range of handheld power tools and equipment for delivery of services including general labouring, weed control, pest exclusion fencing revegetation and watering 

About You

We are looking for applicants with industry leadership experience who take pride in their work and possess the following attributes:

  • Experience leading either bush, arboriculture, landscaping field based crews
  • Extensive knowledge of both indigenous and exotic vegetation within Greater Melbourne (land management experience is highly regarded).
  • Sound leadership and interpersonal skills and the capability to communicate clearly and effectively with work colleges and the general public  
  • Ability to work proactively and constructively in a team environment to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members to contribute to a safe and inclusive workplace 
  • Sound problem solving skills and decision making to lead teams in remote locations 
  • Ability to apply your academic qualification and industry experience to deliver ecologically sound and practical outcomes for Acacia’s customers 
  • Physically fit and be capable of working outside.
  • A genuine passion for leading people and working in the environmental sector.

Necessary Qualifications include:

  • Relevant Tertiary education (Cert III, Bachelor degree or equivalent).
  • Construction OHS Induction card (White/Red Card).
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • ACUP or AgVet training.
  • Manual drivers licence is desirable. 

Strong preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of both indigenous and exotic vegetation and weed control technical skills within Greater Melbourne. Applicants with arboriculture (chainsaw and chipper operation) experience, landscaping skills and/or environmental consultancy will also be highly considered as we also provide arboriculture, landscaping and consultancy services.
