The Role
We’re on the hunt for a mid-level ecologist who’s keen to get out in the field, provide expert advice, and help shape conservation efforts. This job is a mix of fieldwork, mapping and report writing to provide clients with ecological insights. You’ll be teaming up with our Principal and Senior Ecologists and the broader ecology crew to carry out stewardship and impact assessments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading or assisting with ecological surveys, identifying and mapping vegetation.
- Undertaking assessments under the BAM - working on BDARs and BSSARs.
- GIS mapping and survey data analysis.
- Ensuring field data is accurate, meets scientific standards, and aligns with regulations.
- Working with landowners to develop management plans for their properties.
- Client and stakeholder liaison.
- Keeping things consistent and high-quality across fieldwork and reporting.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Haves:
- A degree (or postgrad qualification) in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or something similar.
- At least 3 years’ experience in consulting or similar ecological work.
- Field experience in using the BAM.
- Strong plant ID skills - bonus points if you have experience across NSW.
- GIS and mapping skills.
- Strong writing and communication skills - clear, concise reporting is key.
- A solid understanding of threatened species, their habitats, and how to manage them.
- Knowledge of NSW and federal environmental legislation.
- Ability to work solo and as part of a team.
- NSW driver’s licence and first aid certification.
- White Card (Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry).
- Willingness to travel regularly, and to remote locations, for fieldwork.
Nice-to-Haves:
- BAM accreditation or close to accreditation.
- Fauna handling and field survey experience.
- 4WD experience and certification.
