The Role

In this new, grant funded project position, you will lead the delivery of the Waterways Flood Mitigation Management Plans and Goornong Flood Study from inception to completion.

The Waterways Flood Mitigation Management Plans project involves development of plans for five waterways in the Bendigo municipality in collaboration with relevant public land managers and the community. The plans will identify management responsibilities and set out actions aimed at mitigating flood risk while protecting and enhancing natural values.

The Goornong Flood Study involves modelling flood prone areas in Goornong and identification of potential flood mitigation measures. The project will inform the Goornong Structure Plan as well as potential planning scheme changes and capital works.

You will:

  • Develop projects plans, consultant briefs, communications plans and other project management documents.
  • Engage and manage consultants to deliver, amongst other things, flood studies, ecological assessments and community engagement.
  • Design and oversee delivery of community engagement activities and initiatives that involve the community and keep them informed throughout the two projects.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings and reports.
  • Meet the timeframes and terms of the relevant funding agreements and associated implementation plans and liaise with the funding body.
  • Undertake evaluation activities.

About You

To be successful in this varied position, you will have:

  • Experience leading the development of complex land use or environmental strategies and plans. Experience delivering flood studies and / or waterway plans is desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of flood modelling, waterways management and strategic land use planning.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage consultants and budgets and meet set timeframes.
  • Advanced community and stakeholder engagement skills, including demonstrated experience working with Traditional Owners and involving the community in strategic projects.
  • Highly developed communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to gain the cooperation of others and effectively communicate complex and contentious information to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.

If you hold formal qualifications in land use planning, environmental studies, natural resource management, engineering or similar, we welcome your application.
