Title:

Senior Botanist

Advertiser:

EcoFutures

Location:

Brisbane or Townsville, QLD (negotiable)

We are looking for an ecologist who wants to join a team with a great culture and is passionate about what EcoFutures is looking to achieve.

We are looking for a Senior Botanist to join our team in Queensland. The role requires applying ecological knowledge to a wide variety of complex situations. We are not content with just measuring what is there - we want to apply our knowledge to help manage the transition of ecological systems under changing climatic conditions.

The role is focussed on advancing and applying concepts of ecological resilience, climate adaptation and ecosystem understanding to inform management of our natural environment. As part of the Alluvium Group our people are often involved in multi-disciplinary projects with our economists, engineers and social scientists. Often working on country with strong First Nations stewardship, we promote collaborative projects with First Nations organisations and communities, ensuring integration of cultural values and objectives into ecological management and strategies.

The role is intended to be based in either our Brisbane or Townsville office although other locations would be considered. We pride ourselves on the flexibility of our working arrangements, so we are open to part-time or other arrangements.

The role requirements

Skills and experience expected in the role.

  • 8+ years industry experience with an in-depth understanding of the vegetation ecology of eastern Australian, including plant ID and standard plant survey methodologies.
  • In-depth understanding of ecological functions and processes that influence resilience and adaptation for flora and fauna. A specific research area or field of expertise is an advantage but not essential.
  • An understanding of key state and federal legislation, guidelines and plans particularly for Queensland.
  • Exceptional project management and leadership skills with an established record of generating work.
  • A keen interest in working with clients to manage adaptation of ecological assets to a changing climate.
  • Great written and verbal communications skills in order to describe complex ecological processes in clear plain language.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work across disciplines and geographies to provide integrated outputs.
  • Ability to develop good rapport with clients, stakeholders, staff and partners, together with listening skills, empathy and awareness.
  • A willingness to positively contribute to a collaborative and values-driven work culture.
  • A keen interest in understanding the latest science, a willingness to engage with the best thinkers and a passion for putting that knowledge into practice.
