Consultant - Ecology and/or Bushfire

Advertiser:

Practical Ecology

Location:

Preston, VIC

Practical Ecology Pty Ltd has been in operation since 1993 and is one of Victoria's leading ecological and bushfire planning consultancies. We have a team of experienced consultants that focus on ecology and bushfire risk management, and undertake a diverse range of projects for private and public landowners/managers across Victoria.

Our ecological consulting services focus on undertaking flora and fauna surveys, with either a view to determining legislative implications associated with likely impacts and/or the provision of land management advice to retain and protect the values present. In terms of bushfire planning, the projects we work on range from bushfire related assessments for individual dwellings to settlement planning projects considering bushfire risk on a larger scale. With the provision of both ecological and bushfire consultancy services, along with our capacity to undertake on-ground works, Practical Ecology has the ability to provide a range of varied services to our clients.

We are currently seeking a consultant to join our team. The focus of this consultant will be dependent on the skills and experience they can bring to Practical Ecology, along with their own desires when it comes to focussing on ecological or bushfire consulting, or both.

In general, a consultant focussed on ecology is responsible for undertaking flora and fauna surveys and reporting, as well as providing ecological advice to other staff and clients and preparing quotes/tenders. A consultant focussed on bushfire is responsible for undertaking Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessments, and preparing Bushfire Management Statements (BMS), Bushfire Risk Assessments for larger planning processes such as rezoning, and Bushfire Management Plans for bushland reserves. Given the nature of our projects, there also is scope for the right candidate to focus on both ecology and bushfire as part of their work.

Working with Practical Ecology as a consultant provides the opportunity to be involved in all facets of project management, from initial quoting and client to liaison, to fieldwork, report writing, mapping and invoicing. As a consultant, you will therefore have chance to not only share your existing skills and experience, but build on these, and learn all facets of ecological and bushfire consulting in a team oriented, positive and inclusive environment. .

The following Selection Criteria apply to this position:

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and other related documents, including flora and fauna assessments, impact assessments and management plans and/or BAL assessments, Bushfire Management Statements and bushfire planning advice for small- and large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including liaison with clients, management of multiple projects, meeting deadlines and working within a budget.
