As the Conservation Operations Officer - Fauna, you will work with a small, well-resourced team of like-minded people to implement biodiversity monitoring and research projects across Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) managed protected areas in the Kimberley.

This role will take you by land, sea and air to some of the most breathtaking places in the Kimberley as you work across a network of monitoring sites to evaluate the effectiveness of DBCA terrestrial threat management programs and other related fauna research projects.

The salary ranges from $87,712 - $92,057 p.a. (with an increase of 5% when the new agreement is registered, 4% on 13 June 2025 and 3.5% in 2026). Additionally, there are ongoing training and development opportunities.

The position is based in Broome, but Kununurra will also be considered.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in various fauna survey, monitoring and identification techniques (i.e., live capture, cameras, acoustic recording units).
  • Demonstrated experience in collecting, collating and analysing data, managing datasets, report and scientific paper writing, and GIS.
  • Demonstrated experience working in remote locations, working effectively as part of a team and independently, showing high self-motivation and good fitness.
  • The ability and willingness to work with Traditional Owners to deliver Native Title aspirations and goals through joint management, cooperation, or collaborative arrangements.

At DBCA, we have adopted Leadership Expectations which provides a common understanding of the mindsets and expected behaviours required of all our employees and the public sector. In this role, you will demonstrate Personal Leadership to help drive positive change.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current Western Australian 'C' class drivers license prior to commencement.
