About the role

We are seeking a collaborative, organised and passionate Tree Services Coordinator to join our Open Space team for an asap start here at City of Canada Bay on a 8 month Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension.

The Tree Services Coordinator is responsible for the management, protection and maintenance of the Urban Forest in the City of Canada Bay. Working collaboratively within the Urban Forest & Ecology Team, this role is responsible for ensuring effective management and coordination of public tree assets and their maintenance across the LGA, private tree applications, assessment of development and driveway applications and enforcement of Councils Urban Forest and Tree Maintenance Provisions within the DCP and other relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and maintain Council owned trees in accordance with relevant standards, legislation and strategic goals within the LGA utilising Councils tree management program (Forestree) and Councils Record Management System (TechOne).
  • Provide technical advice to the community and stakeholders including the Urban Forest & Ecology Team and the Manager, Open Space on issues relating to Urban Forest management in the City of Canada Bay.
  • Effectively co-ordinate, direct and oversee allocation of resources for the Tree Services Team including contractors and sub-contractors to ensure reactive tree maintenance works are completed efficiently, within contract specifications and budget in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Ensure compliance when processing applications such as development applications (DA’s) and road driveway applications (RDAs) in accordance with statutory requirements and the City’s DCP, adopted policies and strategies, Australian Standards and the Veg SEPP.
  • Process all Council Tree Pruning and Removal Applications (Permits) and assessment of Development Application Referrals which are to be undertaken in accordance with service level agreements and other relevant Council policies and legislation with the efficient and effective allocation of resources.
  • Work with Councils Health, Building and Compliance Team to undertake investigation of unauthorised tree works reported to Council.

About the person

The successful applicant will have the following:

  • AQF5 Diploma of Arboriculture.
  • White Card
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in local government tree management or a minimum of 7 years arboricultural industry experience (in Australia).
  • Tree Risk Assessment Qualifications including QTRA (required) and TRAQ.
  • Tree assessment and determination of works.
  • Sydney basin tree species identification skills.
  • Significant demonstratable experience in people management.
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience using Microsoft Suite.
