The Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation (Jabalbina) administers native title rights, Aboriginal freehold land and Indigenous Land Use Agreements on behalf of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji People.
Jabalbina is seeking to recruit a person to support the development of operational processes and systems within its Cultural Information Management System pertaining to Sea Country.
Your new Role
Based at the HQ in Mossman and reporting to the Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Manager, you will provide support to management in implementing operational plans to allow for effective monitoring of Eastern Kuku Yalanji people’s sea country cultural values whilst exploring and implementing self-sustaining opportunities such as fee-for-service and blue carbon.
Some of your duties include:
- Support the development and implementation of the EKY sea country MERI program and its operational features.
- Work with internal and external project and program managers and coordinators to coordinate activities and resources.
- Complete reporting, database work and other administrative tasks
- Engage with Traditional Owners, and stakeholders and build strong relationships with the community.
- Complete training to gain knowledge and understanding of how to utilise the Monitoring Program.
- Assist with planned sea country-related activities.
- Support the development of business plans and fee-for-service opportunities.
Essential requirements:
- Knowledge of culture and traditional land and sea management, as well as mainstream natural resource management practices.
- Demonstrated skills in organising logistics to run activities including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external bodies.
- Computer literacy in particular, Microsoft Office apps e.g. Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook etc.
- Open Manual Driver’s license
- First Aid certificate (or willing to obtain)
- Blue Card (or able to obtain)
- Coxswains Certificate (desirable but not essential)
