This management role is diverse and collaborative and offers a mix of office and field-based work.

As Senior Ranger, you will supervise staff based in Charters Towers, Hughenden and Mount Isa. The Savanna Management Unit is diverse and dispersed. Parts of these three work units are remote and may become isolated from time to time.

To effectively lead the planning and delivery of fire, pest, visitor and asset management programs across this geographically dispersed area, regular travel is necessary. Most of your time will be spent performing office-based administrative responsibilities. It will also be important to assist your teams in the field on occasion, and to engage with a range of stakeholders.

Senior Rangers play manage the flow of information between on-ground operational rangers and management. This position remotely supervises staff living in a variety of rural and urban locations and deals with issues across the breadth of the department's business. Having the ability to establish and maintain effective and meaningful relationships and communicate with influence is essential.

You must be able to:

• Effectively lead and manage a geographically dispersed team
• Deliver and report on annual work programs and budgets
• Plan, develop and oversee the timely delivery of projects within budget and scope
• Participate in agency planning, monitoring and evaluation processes
• Prepare complex correspondence including ministerial documents and briefings
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes diversity and inclusion
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with park neighbours and First Nations peoples
• Provide information, advice and education to the public, industry and other key stakeholders
• Plan and manage emergency response and support the recovery of areas after natural disaster events.

This position is located in Townsville or Charters Towers.
