The Ranger Coordinator role is for Native Title Land situated on Mount Mulligan. This position plays a pivotal role in managing and conserving natural resources, fostering community engagement, and upholding the cultural values and obligations associated with the traditional Djungan Owners & unique cultural heritage of Nguddaboolgan county.
This position requires a deep understanding of both environmental conservation principles and the cultural significance of the land to Indigenous communities.
NNTAC are is now recruiting for ranger positions, seeking appropriate ranger skills, attributes and experience to work effectively with Aboriginal people. The Ranger Coordinator will recruit the team for the Ranger group.
Residence location will need to be in the region of Mareeba, Tolga, Dimbulah.
Key Responsibilities:
- Environmental Conservation and Management:
- Develop and implement conservation strategies and land management plans that align with both environmental best practices and Indigenous cultural protocols.
- Monitor and assess the health of ecosystems, waterways, and wildlife habitats within Native Title Land.
- Coordinate fire management practices to maintain biodiversity and reduce wildfire risks.
- Implement strategies for the control and eradication of invasive species that threaten the integrity of the ecosystem.
- Cultural Heritage Preservation:
- Collaborate closely with Traditional Owners and Indigenous communities to protect and promote cultural heritage sites and practices.
- Facilitate cultural heritage surveys, assessments, and documentation to ensure compliance with legal and cultural preservation requirements.
- Support the transmission of cultural knowledge and practices related to land management and conservation efforts.
- Community Engagement and Education:
- Foster positive relationships with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and external agencies involved in land management and conservation efforts.
- Organise and conduct educational programs and workshops to raise awareness about environmental stewardship, cultural heritage, and the significance of Native Title Land.
- Act as a liaison between the Indigenous community and external organizations, advocating for the protection of Native Title rights and interests.
- Operational Leadership and Team Management:
- Second-In-Command for a team of Rangers and support staff/ contractors, providing guidance, training, and mentorship in land management practices and cultural protocols.
- Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and procurement of resources necessary for effective land and wildlife management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures governing land management and conservation activities.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare comprehensive reports, including environmental assessments, cultural heritage impact statements, and progress updates on conservation initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of biodiversity data, land management activities, and community engagements for reporting to funding bodies, government agencies, and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Resource Management, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in land management, preferably in Indigenous lands or conservation settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices, protocols, and land management techniques.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in team management and project coordination.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
- Proficiency in report writing, data analysis, and use of relevant software and technology for conservation and land management.
