About the Opportunity

Umwelt is seeking a Senior Ecologist who is looking to progress their career in ecological consulting, working in NSW and ACT with our Canberra ecology team. The role is preferably based in Canberra, however we will also consider other relevant regional locations in Southern NSW. Our ideal candidate would have previous experience as an ecological consultant as a BAM accredited assessor, would enjoy dealing with clients and managing projects, and would have sound ecological survey, reporting and assessment skills. Experience in assessments of renewables projects, including experience in bird and bat utilisation surveys would be highly desirable. As a Senior Ecologist, you will work closely with our ACT Ecology Lead, Canberra Office Manager and National Ecology Lead to deliver quality project outcomes.

About you

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Ecologist with approximately 5+ years of experience who has:

• Sound technical ecological and project management skills.
• BAM accredited assessor or with extensive experience in BAM and/or other biometric data capture and analysis or capacity to achieve BAM accreditation within 6 months.
• Demonstrated experience in planning and management of ecological surveys for large scale development or biodiversity offsetting projects.
• An ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including clients and government agencies, as well as other staff.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including experience in preparing and reviewing reports. Willingness to take responsibility for delivery of reports to final quality.
• Experience in bird and bat utilisation survey and blade strike and barotrauma impact assessment, is desirable.
• Demonstrated experience in the collection and interpretation of ecological and spatial data.
• A degree/post graduate qualification in environmental science, botany, zoology environmental science (or similar).
• A high level of motivation and self-direction.
