About the role

As you will be part of the Strategic Catchment and Conservation Planning team and will be responsible for advising the department on matters relating to the ecological conservation and biodiversity and management of the city's environmental values. Your main focus will be on the development, delivery, and review of biodiversity planning and management projects including but not limited to individual species and community recovery plans and natural area management plans.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Take a lead role in the development, delivery, and review of biodiversity planning and management projects.
  • Act as a technical lead in the provision of legislative and best practise advice to the organisation and support in developing biodiversity and natural resource management plans and guidelines for use by council staff and external stakeholders, including Matters of Local Environmental Significance, Threatened Species and Ecosystems Recovery Plans, and Habitat Management Systems.
  • Identify opportunities and provide support and offer balanced solutions for the positive management and promotion of the City's biodiversity and natural environment.
  • Liaise with Council Departments and Branches, primarily the Strategic Catchment and Conservation Planning, Environment and Sustainability Education and Awareness, Land Management and Natural Area Planning, Natural Area, Strategic Planning, and Development Planning Teams, for biodiversity outcomes on public and private land
  • Investigate opportunities to engage and partner with external organisations to support biodiversity planning and projects and seek new and contemporary opportunities.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • An excellent fit with our values of communication, collaboration, integrity, efficiency, and leadership.
  • Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Management, Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Management, Catchment Management, Ecology or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in environmental management, wildlife management, natural resource management, catchment management, or similar field.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders on issues relating to biodiversity and natural environment management.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in writing and delivering biodiversity and natural environment management plans, project plans, guidelines, and technical reference documents, including:
    • Terrestrial and riparian vegetation.
    • Fauna habitat management.
    • Ecosystem health.

This is a permanent full time Level 5 with a salary package commencing at $86,974 plus superannuation of up to 12%.
