We are looking for an enthusiastic Aquatic Ecologist to join our growing Environmental Services team. Ideally, we are seeking a Graduate or Scientist level Aquatic Ecologist to support and contribute to the aquatic team as well as the larger ecology team. You will have experience in freshwater (esp. electrofishing) and marine survey techniques, a broad knowledge and understanding of aquatic ecosystems, have good writing skills and work well in a team.

You will be assisting with a range of projects, conducting field work, delivering client reports, preparing project proposals, and contributing to ecological assessments, environmental management and conservation planning solutions on both large and small-scale projects throughout Queensland

The role will involve assisting our Environmental Services team with assessments in accordance with State and Commonwealth guidelines, data management, report preparation, proposal preparation, client liaison, and project and budget management depending on your level of experience.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Tertiary or post graduate qualifications in a related field (Freshwater Ecology/Biology/Marine/Environmental Sciences).
• Knowledge of Queensland aquatic/marine flora and fauna species, including skills in identification, handling, and management of threatened species.
• Experience in undertaking aquatic/marine ecological fieldwork, as well as a willingness and capability to conduct remote field work for extended periods.
• Advanced skills and experienced with writing reports and proposals.
• Broad range of skills and experience in conducting aquatic/marine surveys including the use of, but not limited, to nets and traps as well as experience with, or willingness to rapidly gain skills in electrofishing using both backpack and boat bases units (with medical approval to do so).
• Experience with current macroinvertebrate survey techniques and identification.
• Proficient data analysis experience.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• A commitment to safety and safe work practices.
• Ability to work well with a variety of people and work safely in the field.
• Flexible, hardworking and uses initiative.
• Current driver's licence - manual vehicle licence preferred.
• Current recreational boat licence.

• Understanding of environmental projects, budgets and client management.
