Senior Ecologist / Environmental Scientist Team Leader

We are looking for an enthusiastic team leader to join our Northern NSW Environmental Services team. We are ideally seeking a Senior Ecologist / Environmental Scientist, with strong skills in team leadership, environmental project management and an environmental science discipline (i.e., Australian flora or fauna ecology, environmental planning, GIS analysis, water or construction/soil science etc).

You will lead the Northern NSW team to achieve business objectives by supporting business strategy and planning, sourcing work, delivering successful projects and mentoring of staff. You will have the opportunity to assist in delivering environmental management and conservation planning solutions on both large and small-scale projects throughout Northern NSW and Southeast Queensland for a variety of clients. The role will involve assessments in accordance with State and Commonwealth guidelines, data management, report preparation, proposal preparation, client liaison, and a strong focus on project and budget management.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Environmental Planning/Ecology/Zoology.
  • Experience leading and developing a small team.
  • Working knowledge of New South Wales and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
  • Skills and experience in ecological surveys and reporting in New South Wales.
  • Strong project, budget, and client management skills.
  • Experience in Environmental Impact Statement requirements in New South Wales relating to ecology.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating and undertaking fieldwork, as well as a willingness and capability to conduct remote field work.
  • Demonstrated data analysis and report writing skills.
  • Experience in preparing a range of high-quality consulting reports.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Fauna habitat and survey techniques.
    • Fauna identification and handling.
    • Queensland and New South Wales flora species.
    • Queensland and New South Wales regional ecosystems framework.
  • Well-developed analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Current driver's licence - manual licence preferred.

The following skills and attributes would be highly regarded:

  • BAM accredited assessor.
  • Prior ecological consulting experience (preferably in NSW).
  • Major project safety inductions and training, including construction white card.
  • Mapping abilities using QGIS and / or ArcGIS.
  • Manual drivers' licence.
  • First Aid/CPR.
