Wild Rivers is seeking a skilled and experienced person to lead a team of people implementing a variety of weed management techniques in remote locations around the ACT and eastern Victoria.

The position is 38 hours per week averaged out over the month to work around weather conditions. It is a requirement of the successful applicant to make themselves available to work away from home for up to 10 days at a time, accommodation varies from lightweight remote camping to vehicle based camping and occasionally caravan parks/cabins. These trips vary in frequency and length with a majority of the work based around Canberra returning home each night.

The successful applicant will be expected to represent Wild Rivers, delivering on site works of a high standard, whilst adhering to company policies and values.

The successful applicant will have a highly organised approach with a strong ability to multitask a range of on ground works, including personnel management skills. The position reports directly to the company Directors.

Direct experience in weed management is not essential. The successful applicant will be a well rounded person with a passion for the outdoors, they will take pride in their work and demonstrate a high attention to detail.

• Previous team leading experience with a demonstrated ability to motivate others and maintain accountability.
• A demonstrated ability to plan, organise and complete works within allocated budgets and time frames.
• A demonstrated ability to identify native plants and control a wide range of introduced species.
• A passion for conservation and natural resource management.
• A demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and productively within a small team and to work independently if required.
• A desire for continued learning.
• Demonstrated communication and customer relations skills to successfully liaise with a variety of stakeholders and land managers.
• High level of physical fitness with experience working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Capable of sustained strenuous tasks such as overland hiking, knapsack spraying, using hand tools, planting and extended chainsaw operation.
• A demonstrated ability to respect company equipment and carry out regular maintenance and cleaning procedures.
• Experience in using basic computer programs and mobile apps to write concise job summaries, record data in the field and keep track of daily checklists and time sheets.

Required tickets and qualifications:

(The following qualifications can be obtained post-commencement of the role, training provided in some cases).

• Agricultural Chemical Users Permit.
• First Aid Level 2.
• OHS White Card.
• Chainsaw Operators (trim and crosscut, intermediate felling).
• Manual Australian drivers licence.

Desirable skills:

• Flora identification.
• Experience with a wide range of machinery such as side by sides, post hole diggers, spray units, etc.
• Use of GIS programs to create maps and interpret data collected in the field.
