Senior Archaeologist (Aboriginal heritage specialist)

About the role

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Archaeologist (Aboriginal heritage specialist) to join our team in one of our NSW locations, but preferably in our Wollongong office on a permanent basis.

We really value learning and development so this role will be a key internal resource for less experienced Archaeologists.

This is a senior role so we are looking for someone with 5-10 years of field and consulting experience.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a highly motivated and experienced project manager and technical specialist, and be able to demonstrate your strengths against the selection criteria below.

Selection criteria

To be considered for this role, please forward your CV and cover letter which demonstrate these required skills and attributes:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in archaeology (honours level or equivalent).
  • A minimum of five years' experience in either consulting or the public sector with a focus on Aboriginal heritage.
  • Experience in project management and budget control. Delivering projects on budget and on time.
  • Ability to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with Aboriginal stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Comprehensive report writing and proposal writing skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Commonwealth and NSW legislation and guidelines.
  • Experience working independently and as a part of a team.
  • Competency with computer programs and software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or similar software packages.
  • A current manual driver's license.
  • Willingness to undertake long periods of fieldwork in both urban and remote locations.

Desirable selection criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain lasting client relationships.
  • Artefact analysis skills (Aboriginal and/or historical).
  • Self-motivation with strong time management skills.
  • Experience in marketing, business development and client relationship management.
