About the Role

Cultural Heritage Advisor is an operational role that works within the heritage services team at the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) to deliver Aboriginal cultural heritage management in the BLCAC Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) area and traditional lands. The region is geographically diverse and covers an area from the Werribee River, Port Phillip Bay and West Gippsland The role works closely with other RAPs, traditional owner groups, heritage advisors, public land managers and government bodies in the region to manage and protect Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Responsibilities

• Supporting BLCACs obligations under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 in relation to Cultural Heritage Management Plans and Cultural Heritage Permits.
• Working in collaboration with government bodies to deliver a high standard of cultural heritage project-based work by identifying culturally significant places and landscapes within the region.
• Assisting to develop and maintain collaborative and strategic relationships through engagement and partnering with industry stakeholders to improve understanding of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. Key stakeholders include Aboriginal Victoria, RAPs, traditional owner groups, heritage advisors, local government authorities and public land managers.
• Fostering greater appreciation of Aboriginal culture and cultural heritage.
• Providing accurate, concise and timely advice to key stakeholders regarding Aboriginal cultural heritage management in the region.
• Participating in training, stakeholder engagement and fieldwork to assess, record and identify Aboriginal cultural heritage, which may require travel including overnight accommodation away from home.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate an ability to provide strategic advice in relation to complex and culturally sensitive issues. Formal qualifications, or extensive experience in archaeology and cultural heritage management is required for this position. Aboriginal candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
