The Water Science and Monitoring Branch provides the science evidence base for policy development and water resource management to support social, environmental and economic outcomes (including state development objectives). Key business areas include surface water and groundwater monitoring and asset maintenance; science assessment, modelling and reporting for water allocation and water security planning; statutory assessments; technical and scientific support for national and state water reform; and for support for emergency response actions.

The Technical Officer will reside within the Water Resource Monitoring Unit and will assist in the repair of fixed assets, collect water resource data and enter information into applicable departmental information systems. They will be required to setup and operate various test equipment and also be involved in the maintenance of this equipment. The work will include assisting in the planning and implementing field programs which will be conducted across the State including in remote areas.The incumbent will be required to work as an individual in the field for the majority of time but then work in a team for other programs.

Special Conditions:

• A drivers' licence and willingness to drive 4WD vehicles is essential.
• Some out of hours work will be required.
• Intrastate travel including overnight absences will be required.
• This role has been designated as a position of trust, by applying for this role you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a National Police Clearance (NPC) and to the Department requiring you to obtain an NPC.
• For assignment to the Technical Officer (TGO1) level, an appropriate Technical Qualification relevant to the position in Natural Resources, Hydrography or a related field.
• For assignment to the Technical Officer Unqualified (TGO0) level, the employee must have previously satisfied the educational standards for entry into a course of study leading to a qualification of, at least, an approved and relevant Certificate level course; that is a 'Recognised Qualification'.
