Kleinfelder Australia is an environmental consulting firm providing professional and technical services for land contamination and remediation, environmental planning and approvals, ecology, flora and fauna, spotter catcher services, ecological restoration and rehabilitation, heritage, bushfire, and geotechnical engineering.

As our success and growth continues across NSW, an opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Operations Manager to lead our Land Management team, based in Newcastle.

The Role

Working closely with the Client Account Manager, you will assume a senior position in contributing to the technical and safety leadership, and growth, of our land management service line. You will take the lead in managing a diverse team of supervisors and field technicians that provide bush regeneration and weed management services to private industry and government authorities across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, and surrounding regions. Overseeing the day-to-day delivery of the service line, including managing rostering and resourcing, equipment maintenance. Following appropriate WHS procedures is also an important aspect of the role. This role provides a varied and challenging experience across a range of bushland settings and landscapes.

About you

You will have demonstrated experience in the delivery of bush regeneration and weed management projects to client specifications, together with substantial practical experience in the field. We are seeking an experienced, hard-working and hands-on manager who is keen to coach and develop their team, whilst maintaining high standards of health and safety.

The following key responsibilities are expected from the candidate fulfilling this role:

• Recognised qualifications in Conservation and Land Management, Bushland Regeneration or Environmental Science, or similar.
• Extensive knowledge of local weed identification and their control methods.
• A general knowledge of local native plant species and vegetation communities of the Hunter Region, or demonstrated skills and ability to get up to speed within a reasonable timeframe.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar operational role, within bush regeneration, horticulture or land management (consideration will be given to candidates with substantial experience in a supervisory role).
• Proven organisational, client management and team leadership skills.
• Strong verbal communication skills to enable effective liaison with team members and clients.
• Practical knowledge of work health and safety policies and procedures, risk management practice and principles.
• Ability to travel and spend short periods away for fieldwork.
• Ability to operate and maintain field equipment, such as brush cutters, lawnmowers and augers.
• Be physically fit, self-motivated, and able to function in a team environment.
• Be available five days a week.
• A current NSW manual driver's licence.
• White Card (construction induction), Senior First Aid and AQF3 ChemCert.

Candidates may also have the following desirable attributes:

• AQF4 ChemCert qualifications.
• Chainsaw qualifications.
• Experience with GPS technology and GIS software applications.
• Experience preparing quotes, works scopes and bushland management plans.
• Experience delivering relevant training (accredited or non-accredited) and Workplace Training and Assessment qualifications.
• Experience completing related admin tasks and basic report writing skills. Intermediate MS Office skills.
