About the Parks & Recreational Services Branch
Located within the Lifestyle & Community Directorate, the Parks & Recreational Services Branch is responsible for planning, constructing, maintaining and conserving the Gold Coast's parks, open spaces and natural areas to enhance recreational and sporting access, active and healthy lifestyles, appreciation of our natural areas and biodiversity conservation. Within the Branch, the Natural Areas Management Unit (NAMU) is responsible for the day to day management and conservation of a 13,000 hectare estate with significant and diverse biological values. The unit protects and enhances conservation reserves from the McPherson Range to Southern Moreton Bay.
About the Position
This is a new Executive Position who will lead the existing Natural Areas Management Unit (NAMU) team as well as the newly created Bushfire Management and Risk Mitigation team in the delivery of strategic planning, operational programs, capital works and day to day operation of the City’s natural area estate. The role will be responsible for the planning and management of a significant operational budget and the delivery of high-profile and high-risk capital projects. This role oversees the management of a large multi-functional team. In addition, the position will strategically plan and prepare for climate change to ensure the City’s conservation estate can adapt and natural hazards are minimised to the greatest extent possible. The role forms part of the Parks and Recreational Services branch executive team. Management of the natural areas estate is becoming increasingly more complex. A more strategic approach is required to mitigate current and emergent risks, including Corporate risks, rockfall and bushfire and planning for the impacts of global warming.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead teams and support staff to help ensure that they achieve their goals and gain a sense of accomplishment each day. You will have post-graduate qualifications in Environmental Science or similar and demonstrated expertise in managing a large natural estate. In addition, you will possess proven contract and business management skills and enjoy the fact that your business skills will positively impact the successful delivery of NAMU's conservation activities. We require a team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
