About Us

The City of Whittlesea is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia. As a local government organisation, we play a pivotal role in the everyday lives of our community. Our vision is to make Whittlesea 2040: A Place For All by ensuring our residents can enjoy access to local services, facilities and infrastructure.

We are serious about Greening

Council’s Greening Whittlesea Strategy sets out our vision for our City Forest, which is supported by W2040 goals and a suite of open space, climate and environmental protection strategies. The City includes a sprawling open space system of over 2,000 parks, sports and conservation reserves, waterways, urban and rural streetscapes and town centres. The City of Whittlesea is home to a diverse City Forest, including Metropolitan Melbourne’s largest portfolio of protected Eucalyptus camaldulensis. Located on the northern edge of metropolitan Melbourne, covering an area of approximately 489km2, of which around 70% is rural, and 30% is urban. The Urban Growth Boundary separates the well-established and developing suburbs to the south and designated Green Wedge Land to the north. Across the City, there is a strong recognition of the Wurundjeri connection to culture, with culture being the interconnection of land, water, vegetation, and fire.

The Role

Reporting to the Unit Manager Landscape Development, you will be part of a collegiate team delivering open space planning, city forest planning and subdivision landscape assessment and surveillance. The Surveillance Arborist is responsible for the timely assessment and surveillance of tree quality and protection in relation to subdivision development, State Government Authorities and Council Infrastructure projects. The role includes a vehicle and contributes to the municipality's amenity, character, and liveability by ensuring healthy, well maintained trees are retained, delivered, and handed over to Council.

About You

Are you a qualified Arborist looking for a change? You are looking for an opportunity to work with a collaborative team passionate about trees. You either have experience in sub-division assessment or would like to try a change from your current Arboriculture work. You will use your knowledge and expertise to provide technical advice and oversight to a range of sub-division and civil projects. You take pride in collaborating with colleagues and efficient time management, record keeping and adherence to process.

At the City of Whittlesea, we value diversity and appreciate everyone’s strengths. We are an equal opportunity employer and committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects our municipality. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, people with a disability and people identifying as LGBTIQ. The City of Whittlesea is also a Child Safe employer.

In line with the directions issued by Victoria's Chief Health Officer, all roles at the Council require staff to be mandatorily vaccinated to perform duties and/or deliver services to the community. Therefore, if you are successful in the selection process, you will be required to provide us with evidence of an approved Covid-19 vaccination or authorised medical exemption.

Council is committed to providing an inclusive workplace that encourages employees to participate, without discrimination, in both work-related and other activities conducted within a work context, with the support of workplace adjustments. Where possible, Council will identify and resolve potential barriers to the recruitment and employment of people with disabilities within the organisation.
