About the business

Contour Agricultural and Environmental Consulting is a small but growing business which is involved in a diverse range of work across Australia. Contour Consulting currently specialises in (ESRM) landscape management planning; carbon farming support services; and agronomy and soil testing. The majority of the work is based in WA, but interest has recently increased in SA and QLD.

About the role

The Project Manager/ Senior Landscape Ecologist Position is a diverse role working across multiple projects and states. The successful candidate will develop landscape management plans for pastoral, carbon farming, conservation and indigenous clients, initially under supervision but eventually independently. They will provide targeted advice relating to the implementation of rangelands rehydration techniques such as: regenerative grazing, erosion control, prescribed fire regimes, and weed and feral animal management, both on site and through written reports.

They will manage projects relating to scoping, undertaking feasibility assessments and developing management plans for HIR carbon projects on pastoral lands.


  • Manage the implementation and development of Ecologically Sustainable Rangelands Management (ESRM) planning and other project work.
  • Maintain and develop client relationships through ongoing communication.
  • Prepare reports to client specifications.
  • Undertake field trips across Australia, initially under supervision and, eventually independently.
  • Supervise, coordinate and manage a field team in the carbon project space.
  • Use GIS software for data digitisation, basic spatial analysis and map making.
  • When not involved in project work, find work to improve the business (developing and writing procedures, creating templates or marketing material etc).



  • A tertiary degree in Environmental or Agricultural Science or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of rangelands ecology and geomorphology, regenerative agriculture and pastoralism, and carbon farming (particularly the Human Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology).
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working in the rangelands of Australia directly with land managers.
  • An outgoing and engaging personality with demonstrated ability to develop professional relationships with pastoral, agricultural and other land managers.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and autonomously with minimal supervision to meet task deadlines.
  • Ability to travel and work in remote locations.
  • Very good report writing skills of both a scientific and non-scientific nature.
  • Very good project management skills.
  • A high level of experience and ability with the Microsoft Office software suite.


  • A good level of ability with QGIS or other GIS software or a willingness to learn.
  • A work history that aligns with the products and services offered by Contour Consulting.
  • Honours or postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Other relevant training, such as Provide First Aid, 4WD training, etc.


  • ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence.
  • Capacity to obtain a Working with Children’s Check and Police Clearance.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
