Expressions of Interest

Australia’s Ramsar Administrative Authority is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified people for the honorary position of Australia’s Ramsar Non-Government CEPA National Focal Point.        

CEPA National Focal Points  (one in government and one from an NGO) are recognised experts in wetland communication and education. The role of Focal Points may include:

  • Providing leadership and a point of contact for practitioners based at wetland education centres, research institutions, conservation and other NGO’s.
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts, networks, and coordinating mechanisms to share information within the sector.
  • Promoting the outreach activities on World Wetlands Day celebrated globally on 2 February every year to raise awareness about the value of wetlands. 
  • Sharing information on tools and materials to assist practitioners implement wetland communication and education activities.
  • Contributing to Australia’s national reporting on these activities to the triennial Conference of the Parties. 

Australia has been incredibly fortunate to have Christine Prietto, a highly respected educator nationally and internationally and former Chairman of Australia’s first wetland education centre, the Hunter Wetland Centre, as our Ramsar CEPA Non-Government Focal Point since 2001. Chris has generously offered to mentor our new NGO Focal Point.
