Spectrum Ecology & Spatial (Spectrum) is a Perth-based environmental consultancy built on innovation, scientific rigour, and quality service. We offer a comprehensive suite of capabilities in the fields of ecology, botany, zoology, and GIS/remote sensing. Due to strong growth and increasing business opportunities, we are looking for additional Botanists to join the highly talented and growing team in our Leederville office.   • Field days are paid at 12 hours per day and capped at approximately 70 days (unless you want to do more!!!).
  • 6 weeks leave (4 weeks annual and 2 weeks accrued time in lieu).

Job tasks and responsibilities

The successful applicant will work with the botany team to complete a variety of projects, including safely and effectively completing botanical field trips, analysing data, and producing high quality, informative reports and project solutions for our clients. Senior roles will also include team management tasks, mentoring junior staff and assisting with the development of new business opportunities.

Skills and experience

  • Bachelor level degree in botany, environmental science, or equivalent. Post-graduate qualifications are not essential but will be viewed favourably.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Botanist, preferably in Western Australia, including participating in field surveys and plant identification. Applicants wishing to be considered for Senior roles will have at least 4-5 years experience as a botanist, including leading field surveys.
  • Strong communication skills, and a demonstrated high standard of report writing abilities.
  • Experience with GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
  • Strong analytical skills, including statistical analysis is highly desirable for Senior roles, including high level competencies in Microsoft Excel and "R" (statistical software) highly desirable.
  • Strong project management skills suitable for leading medium to large sized projects in a day-to-day consultancy environment are also highly desirable for Senior roles.
  • Current ‘manual’ driving licence.
