Natural Resource Manager

Barengi Gadjin Land Council

Horsham, Wimmera Region, Victoria

Salary etc:

$80,000 - $90,000 p.a. + super. (subject to experience)

Barengi Gadjin Land Council (BGLC) represents Traditional Owners from the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk peoples, who were recognised in a 2005 Native Title Consent Determination, the first in south-eastern Australia.

BGLC is the Federally recognised authority to speak on behalf of the Wotjobaluk peoples. We are also the only body in the region with the legislative authority to make legal decisions about cultural heritage.

We are the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Wotjobaluk claim area, as outlined in the Native Title Act, giving us legal authority and obligation to work on behalf of Traditional Owners.

BGLC is a Registered Aboriginal Party, as appointed by the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Council, under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.

Caring for Country

We are part of our Country, and our Country is part of us. Bunjil the creator, made the land, waterholes, animals and plants and gave Wotjobaluk Peoples the responsibility to look after Country and culture and keep it healthy and strong. Country heals us to our dreaming stories, to our ancestors and spirits. ‘Growing What Is Good’ Country Plan.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for someone ready to take on a leadership role as our Natural Resource Manager. Reporting to the General Manager – On Country, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the On Country services and will lead a team made up of RAP Manager, Rangers and Field Officers to support the WJJWJ Traditional Owners aspirations for culture, heritage and natural resource management.
