The Tasmanian Forest Practices Authority is recruiting for a new position. The Communication and Training Officer will work closely with the FPA team on planning, developing and implementing communication and training strategies.

The Forest Practices Authority is an independent statutory authority tasked with regulating forest practices on both public and private land, based on the Forest Practices Act 1985. This system is unique and is Australia’s most comprehensive forestry regulatory system. Our team is committed to ensuring that the system is applied fairly and with integrity.

We are a relatively small organisation of around 20 staff, all but two of which are based in Hobart. Our team is very stable, with most employees choosing to work with us for many years. We are a highly educated and specialised team - most of us are graduates and several have post-graduate qualifications.

Duties

  • Contribute to planning, developing and implementing communication and training strategies. Engage and supervise consultants engaged in these activities as appropriate.
  • Develop effective communication products in a variety of media, including researching background information, consulting with stakeholders and designing and creating the products.
  • Undertake writing, editing and quality control of communication material and other publications, including the translation of complex information into plain English for readers with a range of literacy levels. Ensure publications are adequately proofread for accuracy and consistency in content and presentation.
  • Assist in managing the website content, image library and other communication tools.
  • Respond to queries regarding information about the FPA and the forest practices system.
  • Provide editorial advice to FPA staff.
  • Assist with event management, such as conferences, awards, seminars, field days, workshops and engaging with community and professional groups.

Desirable Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in natural resource management or communications
  • Experience in web based and desk top publishing
  • Current motor vehicle driver’s licence
