About us:

The Murray-Darling Basin Authority is an independent, expertise based statutory agency responsible for planning the Murray-Darling Basin’s water resources, with all planning decisions made in the interest of the Basin as a whole.

Our most important work is to:

  • prepare, implement and review an integrated plan for the sustainable use of the Basin's water resources
  • operate the River Murray system and efficiently deliver water to users on behalf of partner governments
  • measure, monitor and record the quality and quantity of the Basin's water resources
  • supporting, encourage and conduct research and investigations about the Basin's water resources and dependent ecosystems
  • advise the Australian Government Minister for Water Resources on the accreditation of state water resource plans
  • provide water rights information to facilitate water trading across the Basin
  • engage and educate the Australian community about the Basin's water resources.

We are currently recruiting for an APS5 Media Officer for a 12-month non-ongoing opportunity with the possibility of extension.

The Media Officer provides essential monitoring, media product development and administrative support to the MDBA Media team. Using creativity, judgement and strong communication skills, the media officer develops content to promote newsworthy outcomes and activities of the MDBA. A key responsibility is to conduct daily media monitoring for the agency, and to oversee external social media activity.

As a highly engaged team player, the Media Officer is confident working with internal and external stakeholders. Key capabilities include excellent attention to detail, organisation skills and time management.

Undertake activities including:

  • daily tracking and monitoring of media activity relating to the MDBA, and identification of emerging issues for the agency
  • monitor stakeholder social media activity, collate social media reports, and identify emerging issues
  • write high quality media and communications products, including media releases, news articles and talking points
  • support media and general capability issues management and planning
  • team administrative support, including contract management, record-keeping and responding to stakeholder information needs.
