The Organisation

Established in 1994, Landcare Tasmania is the peak body for community Landcare in Tasmania, engaging across all sectors of society to support adoption, design and delivery of positive environment, land management and sustainability outcomes.

With a vision for all the land and coasts of Tasmania to be cared for by the community, Landcare Tasmania is Tasmania’s leading organisation for community-based solutions to environment, agricultural, land management and sustainability challenges.

As the state’s peak Landcare body, it is responsible for the project management, coordination, support and advocacy for and on behalf of more than 300 member groups and over 5,000 regular volunteers, Tasmania wide.

With responsibility for leading an experienced and highly passionate team of staff distributed throughout the state, this is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced leadership candidate to contribute to the continued growth, vitality, and effectiveness of community Landcare within Australia’s southernmost state.

Landcare Tasmania is a member of the National Landcare Network.

The Role:

As the successful candidate for this role, you are an experienced leader with involvement and/or passion for the management of our natural resources. Your ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders from members, to volunteers along with external stakeholders such as industry bodies and Government representatives is critical.

  • take responsibility for Landcare Tasmania’s finances, operations, compliance, and strategy;
  • effectively lead the staff aligning Landcare Tasmania’s Vision and Mission;
  • measure and demonstrate the collective impact of community Landcare activities in social, environmental, and economic terms;
  • promote and enable the effectiveness of members and volunteers statewide;
  • understand existing grant programs benefactors whilst leveraging new opportunities & generating additional revenue streams;
  • work closely with stakeholder partners to leverage opportunities to expand the reach and effectiveness of community Landcare in Tasmania; and
  • work closely with the Board on strategy and compliance.

The Person:

  • an effective & empathetic people leader, having previously managed staff to achieve overall expectations;
  • a genuine passion for the environment;
  • exceptional stakeholder engagement at all levels including Local, State and Federal Government
  • a strong communicator with proven background in networking skills
  • a strategic mindset and astute commercial orientation with compliance experience
  • you will have formal qualifications relevant for this role
  • highly energetic, dynamic and a self-starter

Your role will be to respect and leverage the existing momentum of the organisation whilst ensuring disciplined strategic alignment and execution to deliver sustainable growth in all facets.
