The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is currently seeking 2 x Project Engineers (water modellers) to join the Manly Hydraulics Laboratory for Water Infrastructure NSW.
About the role
Under the guidance of senior staff, undertake a range of professional water engineering investigations within Manly Hydraulic Laboratory’s water modelling team.
The role will undertake and contribute to oceanic, flood, coastal, estuarine, riverine, water, wastewater, water quality, stormwater and flood systems engineering projects and/or participate in larger engineering/environmental data monitoring/water infrastructure projects to achieve project objectives and deliver high quality and innovative client outcomes.
As an integral part of MHL’s investigation team, deliver projects covering a wide range of flood-related investigations from local overland to large catchment riverine flooding in both urban and rural catchments using various hydrological and hydraulic software packages as well as work on projects involving water data related web-based decision support tools, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, computer programming and cloud-based web portal development using Python, and assist with physical modelling of water infrastructure as well as coastal engineering projects.
Reporting to the senior staff, prepare fee proposals for projects that are robust and financially viable whilst being competitive with other industry bidders as well as assist with the preparation of tender submissions and negotiating contract variations.
Contribute to promoting the services of Manly Hydraulics Laboratory, Water Infrastructure NSW and DPIE to all clients through implementation of sound business methodology and become part of an exciting results driven team.
Essential to your success will be your tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline at Degree level.
You will be a consummate team player and be able to grasp new concepts in a busy and challenging environment as well as having a strong understanding of water modelling principles and client services focus in order to develop and obtain repeat business opportunities.
You will have strong TUFLOW hydraulic modelling experience, WBNM experience and Python scripting capability. Experience in MIKE-FLOOD, eWater Source and coastal engineering will also be advantageous.

Please note travel is occasionally required for this role therefore you must have a valid NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel across various locations within NSW including overnight stay.
Manly Hydraulics Laboratory (MHL) provides specialist services in coastal, flood, hydraulic, water, sewer, stormwater, and environmental solutions, including extensive environmental data collection programs and physical and numerical modelling. MHL manages Australia’s largest coastal monitoring network and has been solving coastal, port, and hydraulic engineering problems since 1944.
