Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority (GHCMA) was established by the State Government of Victoria in 1997 to manage land and water resources in the south west region of Victoria. Partnering with people and groups that use the land and water in the region, GHCMA drives action to achieve improved catchment and land health. They have a passionate team of people delivering innovative and varied projects across the region.

The Water Resources Coordinator will lead a small team of two in the coordination of the planning and delivery of environmental water for the Glenelg Hopkins region. As the key liaison point for the Victorian Environmental Water Holder for operational matters regarding environmental water, you’ll engage, facilitate, liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders including partners and community groups. You will also lead the region’s Sustainable Irrigation Program, supporting the growing irrigated agriculture industry to use water wisely and minimise impacts to the environment.

Your key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Improving waterway health through the coordination, planning and delivery of environmental water
  • Oversee technical studies supporting the improved planning and delivery of environmental water
  • Coordinate the delivery of the Environmental Water Communications Strategy and the annual Seasonal Watering Proposal
  • Lead the implementation of the South West Sustainable Irrigation Program including working with partners to build the profile of the program and be the key liaison point for statutory referrals for water extraction and irrigation licensing
  • Manage environmental water projects including communications, procurement, contract management, risk management, financial and people resources within scope
  • Engage, collaborate and build effective relationships with regional partners, community groups, government bodies and authorities
  • Provide technical advice and input regarding environmental water, water resources and sustainable irrigation strategies and plans

To be considered for this position, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering or environmental management and substantial relevant experience
  • A proven background in environmental water resources management including a knowledge of waterway health, sustainable irrigation and issues relevant to the region
  • Knowledge of environmental water requirements, water resource and riparian issues, current legislation, methodologies and processes to manage them
  • Experience in the development and delivery of large and complex projects and project management methodologies
  • Highly effective influencing, liaison and negotiating skills with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Expertise in building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with experience developing investment proposals, responding to grant opportunities and represent the CMA at a range of forums
  • A proactive, innovative and flexible approach
  • Current Manual Victorian Drivers Licence

This position can be based from the Hamilton or Warrnambool office and GHCMA offer a hybrid working model with the ability to split your time between working from the office and from home. You will have the opportunity to work with a highly motivated and passionate team and have input in to influencing strategy and policy. The successful applicant will be required to undertake a National Police Check and obtain a Victorian Working With Children Check.
