Reserve Manager & Field Officer (2 positions)

Bush Heritage Australia

Bon Bon Station Reserve, SA

  • Two positions based in Bon Bon Reserve (SA), both joint and single applications will be considered
  • Coordinate land management activities across Bon Bon Reserve
  • Full time permanent positions based on Bush Heritage’s Bon Bon Reserve

This is an exceptional opportunity to make a very real contribution to the protection of Australia’s unique wildlife and their habitat. Bush Heritage Australia, an independent, leading conservation not-for-profit, is seeking both a Reserve Manager and a Field Officer.

Our vision of Healthy Country protected forever sees us work where we are needed most: in areas of high conservation value with low levels of protection. With the help of our donors, we buy and manage land, so we can protect our irreplaceable landscapes and our magnificent native species forever.

Currently we own 36 reserves, and we protect and help manage 11.3 million hectares of land across the country. In our mission to return the bush to good health, we provide habitat for 6,700 native species, including at least 226 threatened species. Two proven approaches underline what we do: we carefully select, purchase and manage landscapes of high conservation value; and we work in partnership with others, including Traditional Owners the Antakirinja-Yankunytjatjara people to achieve key conservation outcomes.

Bon Bon Reserve is a former sheep property in the Stony Plains and Gawler Bioregions of South Australia. Bon Bon has a wonderful diversity of vegetation communities and land systems including the buckshot plains, mulga and western myall woodlands, salt bush and blue bush (chenopod) shrub lands, sand dunes, freshwater, and salt lakes. This region features boom and bust cycles typical of arid, inland Australia. Rainfall is highly variable and only averages about 150mm a year.

About the roles:

The function of the Reserve Manager is primarily to ensure that management of Bon Bon Reserve on Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Country meets the conservation and organisational goals of Bush Heritage.

The Field Officer provides support to the Reserve Manager on the day-to-day management of the Reserve and other activities across Bush Heritage where required.
