About the Branch:
The Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium (BGSH) is formed under the auspices of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium Act (1978) and is governed by DEW to assist in the administration of this Act. Adelaide, Mount Lofty and Wittunga Botanic Gardens and Botanic Park are managed for scientific research, collections curation and public visitation and use. The mission for the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium is to ‘build an understanding and appreciation of the botanical world’ providing life-long experiences across generations.
The State Herbarium is a scientific collection of more than 1 million plant specimens from South Australia and globally. The Herbarium is housed in the Historic Building, the Old Tram Barn, on the grounds of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Herbarium staff utilise the collection to maintain the Census of South Australian plants. Botanical research is conducted by Herbarium and South Australian Seed Conservation Centre staff, who deliver taxonomy, conservation and other botanical science to the South Australian community and beyond.
The Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium is seeking a passionate, committed and experienced horticultural operational leader. Working closely with the Deputy Director Collections, Living Collections Officer, Horticultural Site Managers and Curators, you will be responsible for providing operational leadership to enable the coordinated delivery and management of the day to day operations of the hills botanic gardens, based at the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden in the beautiful Adelaide Hills.
To be successful in this role you have demonstrated experience within the botanic gardens/ornamental horticulture industry in a senior operational leadership role. You will have lead significant change and have credibility to work in the botanic garden industry. You will have the relevant qualifications and experience and be able to confidently lead a large team of expert operational staff; develop, plan and deliver both operational and policy based projects; as well as co-develop and implement strategic initiatives.You will need to be nimble and be able to work in a dynamic outdoor environment, while prioritising the safety of staff, visitors and collections, and provide sustainable solutions to emerging issues. Salary: ASO6 - $92,784 min - $98,143 max per annum
