Located 16 kms north of the Sydney CBD, the Ku-ring-gai area covers 84km2, is home to 127,000 residents and is set in one of New South Wales’ most attractive natural  environments.  

Ku-ring-gai Council is currently seeking applications from two suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the positions of Bushland Field Officers -  Bushfire Management. 

Reporting to the Team Leader Bushfire Prevention your duties will include, but are not  limited to: 

  • Demonstrated experience in an operational capacity to undertake bushfire management tasks like hazard reduction burning, asset protection zone (APZ), fire  trail and walking track construction and maintenance. 
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in the maintenance and conservation of the natural  environment. 
  • Demonstrated practical experience in the use and maintenance of heavy and small  plant such as 4WD’s, ride on mowers, compaction rollers, chainsaws, brush cutters,  self-propelled mowers and pole saw. 
  • A desire to implement bush generation and weed and vertebrate pest control.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team and meet deadlines. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including dealing with the public in a  positive manner. 

Required experience & skills: 

  • Appropriate qualification relevant to Public Safety (Firefighting Operations), Crew member equivalent (For example, NSW Rural Fire Service or NSW National Parks  and Wildlife Service Crew Member qualification) or willingness to undertake training  to obtain certificate 
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate.
  • Current Manual C class Driver’s licence and willingness to undertake training to obtain MR Driver’s licence.  
  • Current White Card Certificate or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate. 
  • AQF3 Chemical Handling certificate or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate. 
  • Chainsaw operator’s certificate or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate.
