0.4 FTE or 14 hours a week, two year contract.

Mid Coast 2 Tops Landcare Connection (MC2T) represents community-based landcare in the Manning / Great Lakes sub-region of the Hunter LLS region in NSW. We attract funding to support its representative landcare networks: Manning Landcare Inc., Karuah & Great Lakes Landcare Inc. and Manning Coastcare Inc. which promote, through a wide variety of activities and initiatives, sustainable and effective management of natural resources for current and future generations. 

Purpose and Objectives of the Fire Ecology Education Project Officer:

To establish and oversee a fire ecology and mitigation community education program, in line with funding agreement, in partnership with the Mid Coast RFS and Hunter Local Land Services. Over the life of the project, the successful applicant will develop region specific educational materials on local vegetation burn regimes, plan and facilitate workshops for local communities throughout the Mid Coast region and coordinate an annual expo for the wider community. 

Key Accountabilities of the Regional Landcare Coordinator:

  • Develop educational materials on local vegetation fire ecology and fire mitigation for biodiversity conservation.
  • Organise and facilitate workshops to local communities, in collaboration with our partner organisations, the RFS and Hunter Local Land Services.
  • Prepare property mapping for workshop participants, utilising provided vegetation and aerial data. 
  • Project management to report on budget and deliverables as per funding deed
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on program outcomes
  • Develop and implement a project delivery plan
  • Work under the guidance of a Regional Landcare Coordinator and Project Steering Committee

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Capability and confidence with ArcGIS functions
  • Qualification in Environmental Science or Bushfire Management
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including public speaking
  • Project management
  • Valid Driver’s license and vehicle

Preferred Selection Criteria

  • Grant funded project management and reporting experience
  • Experience working within small NGO space and/or independent working environments
  • Previous experience working in fire ecology/ fire management, either professionally or in a volunteer capacity
  • Experience working in the community engagement and/or education space
  • WHS and/or First Aid Certificates

Attendance at meetings and workshops outside of normal work hours will be required with time in lieu system in place.

You will be required to use your own vehicle for work purposes, and provide us with copies of comprehensive insurance for your vehicle.  Vehicle use will be reimbursed on a per kilometre basis.
