About the role:

With our continued success in the resources and renewable energy sectors, our Queensland Team based in Brisbane are looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our talented team.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and assist in delivering innovative environmental assessment, management and conservation planning solutions to our clients.  We work across a wide range of interesting projects across the whole of Queensland and inter-state, and on any given day our ecologists can be found undertaking threatened species surveys for national infrastructure projects, tracking small mammals for windfarms, identifying and mapping protected plants and threatened ecological communities and helping clients plan and monitor the success of their rehabilitation works – amongst many other things.

The role will involve ecological surveys and assessments, proposal and report preparation, client liaison, and project and budget management.  Additionally, you will work with the Queensland Manager and other senior ecologists and consultants to win and manage projects for the Queensland Team, and Share your Genius as you develop and mentor the team.  We value a culture of work-sharing and you will have opportunities to work on projects across Australia.

About you:

This role will allow you to combine your passion for ecology and field skills with your environmental assessment and management experience, legislative knowledge, and well-developed writing and project management abilities to create high quality work and great outcomes for the environment and our clients. 

To be successful, you will have:

  • A degree in Ecology / Environmental Science / Botany or related discipline
  • Previous ecological survey and assessment experience in Queensland (7+ years as a guide)
  • Project Management experience
  • The ability to undertake extended periods of fieldwork, sometimes in remote locations
  • Strong flora and vegetation community and/or fauna species knowledge and identification skills
  • Demonstrated experience leading field teams undertaking flora and/or fauna surveys targeting threatened species, threatened ecological communities, ground truthing  regional ecosystems (REs), habitat and condition assessments in accordance with QLD and Commonwealth environmental legislation 
  • In-depth understanding of, and experience in applying, relevant regulatory frameworks, including Queensland and Commonwealth legislation
  • Track record of winning work via successfully maintaining and building client relationships
  • An established professional network, ideally including a mix of other environment practitioners, clients and regulators
  • An ability and desire to share your genius and provide training/mentoring in area of expertise
  • Confidence in meeting, advising and working with clients and regulators
  • Sound communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others both internally and externally
  • Strong project, budget, and client management skills
  • Current driver’s licence.

It is also desirable that candidates have:

  • Previous consulting experience
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking surveys and assessments for offsets under both Queensland and Commonwealth requirements
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking ecology surveys in Central Queensland
  • Competency using ArcGIS.
