About the role:

With the continued success of our Victorian business and a growing pipeline of work, we are looking for an enthusiastic Principal Ecological Consultant to drive the growth and success of our Melbourne ecology business and provide leadership for our ecology team, both in Melbourne and nationally.

You will have the opportunity to build and maintain lasting relationships with key clients in local government, water, energy, transport, and other sectors across Victoria and oversee the delivery of innovative environmental management and conservation planning solutions for our clients. You will also contribute to delivery of specialist technical studies to help inform a range of planning and management outcomes.

The role will have a strong focus on growing the ecological business within Victoria across a range of public and private sectors. You will be expected to provide leadership in the field of ecology, to win work from a variety of sources, and undertake work on a range of projects in the fields of ecology, planning, conservation assessment and ecological impact assessment. A recognised area of specialist technical expertise will be considered favourably.

Core tasks will include business development, client liaison, project oversight and direction, mentoring, proposal and report preparation, and project and budget management. We will provide you with opportunities to further develop your ecological and business expertise while being supported by a team of approachable experts across ecology and related environmental disciplines.

About you:

This role will allow you to combine your passion for  the environment with your expertise in business development, knowledge of ecology, biodiversity and associated legislation, and writing and project management to win and deliver high quality work and positive outcomes for our clients and the environment.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Ecology or a related discipline.
  • At least ten years’ industry experience, with consulting experience considered highly desirable.
  • Experience in business development and building and maintaining relationships with key clients, and a proven track record of winning work.
  • The ability to identify strategic marketing opportunities and respond accordingly through innovative product offerings.
  • Recognised technical expertise in a field of ecology or work sector.
  • Experience in mentoring and training staff and as a positive and professional role model to staff.
  • A working knowledge of Victorian and Commonwealth environmental legislation including Victoria’s native vegetation removal regulations.
  • Confidence in meeting, advising, and working with clients and regulators.
  • Experience in the technical review of ecological reports and assessment methods.
  • Experience in preparing a range of high-quality consulting reports, including for flora and fauna assessments, planning approvals, monitoring and management.
  • Strong project, budget, and client management skills.
  • A current Victorian driver’s license.
