Dragonfly Environmental are specialists in ecological restoration of wetlands, riparian zones, saltmarshes and environmental management of a wide range of terrestrial ecosystems. Essential criteria:

  • Experience in Bush Regeneration Knowledge and practical skills in weed control/management techniques
  • White Card (or get it prior to starting)
  • Driver’s License or willingness to get yourself to a variety of sites by other means
  • Strong passion for the environment
  • Positive attitude and excellent work ethic in any weather

Desirable criteria:

  • Completing or Completed Certificate 3 in Conservation and Land Management (Certificate 2, 4 & Diploma also accepted)
  • Chainsaw ticket (Level 1 or Level 2)
  • Ability to drive manual confidently
  • ChemCert Card (AQF3 Accreditation)
  • First Aid Certificate

Bush Regenerators are responsible for:

  • Identifying and recognizing a range of local bushland weed species and indigenous species and be able to recognize significant vegetation communities.
  • Establishing and maintaining high levels of team morale & motivation among the bush regeneration group through the use of excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Personal responsibility for allocated assets (tools) and consumables (chemicals).
  • Undertaking environmental weeding and bushland regeneration activities including planting and seed collecting, primary and secondary weeding and track construction and maintenance.
  • Bush Regenerators can reasonably expect to be required to complete tasks characterized by:
    • Manual handling – lifting, pushing, pulling etc at no more than 10KG.
    • Use of tools including trowel, secateurs, knife and saw at no more than 10KG.
    • Use of power tools including chainsaw (if licensed) and brush cutters.
    • Use of chemicals (we aim to minimise use however some contracts still require it at present)
    • Walking to, from and on work sites over variable distances and terrains.
    • Exposure to adverse weather conditions, including extended sun, wind and rain.
    • Exposure to hazards of the natural environment, e.g., bites and stings.
    • Working in locations that are remote from immediately available medical/paramedical services (western foreshores of Pittwater).
  • Effectively participating in a team to ensure a happy and safe work environment.

Bush regeneration requires good physical fitness, health and a can-do attitude you will be working in any weather that is safe to work. You will do extensive walking, carrying, kneeling, machine use (Brush-cutter, chainsaw etc). You must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position.

Locations cared for include over eight First Peoples homelands encompassing all of the Sydney area, parts of the Central Coast, Blue Mountains and Wollongong. This position requires travel to the different sites possibly up to 1.5 hrs each way.
