Garden/Landscape Maintenance

Australian Ecosystems has a large landscape maintenance team, working on a wide range of projects across the Greater Melbourne region. We are looking for skilled maintenance staff to help us maintain landscapes from ecological restoration projects to sustainable urban communities.

Experience in the following areas are not essential but would be of great advantage:

  • Commercial, industrial and residential estates
  • Street scapes, Gardens, parks, and public open spaces
  • Waterways, wetlands and bushland areas

Roles and responsibilities may include:

  • Maintenance of turf, lawn, advanced trees, garden beds, playgrounds, rooftop gardens, community food gardens, and high-end landscapes
  • Maintenance of native vegetation
  • Slashing, broad-scale or spot spraying, brush cutting, edging, rubbish removal and general landscape maintenance
  • Monitoring and reporting on concrete, paving, structures, playgrounds, planters, timber beds
  • Effective use of a range of weed management techniques including chemical application with backpack spray or QuikSpray unit, mechanical removal (brush cutter, slasher, chainsaw, etc), woody weed control and manual weed removal
  • Safe work practices in accordance with the company management system and OH&S regulations

Important qualities for the successful execution of the position include

  • Formal trade qualification in landscape/horticulture and at least 3 years’ experience
  • Enthusiasm about sustainable design and ecological restoration
  • Hands-on practical understanding and experience in construction supervision and on-ground implementation of the formal landscape, civil works and horticultural projects
  • Good written and oral presentation and personal presentation
  • Honesty, self-motivation, the ability to work independently and a solid work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, consultative, facilitation, teamwork and negotiation skills and experience and ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the implementation of OHS standards and requirements
  • Current driver’s license
  • Construction Industry Induction "White" card
  • Chemical User Certificate and ACUP
  • Competence with mechanical equipment such as "brush cutters", planting drills, mowers, etc
