The Team & Role

GHD's Newcastle Ecology team specialises in biodiversity impact assessment, management and offsetting. We work closely with our private and public sector clients to guide effective land management decision-making and to deliver practical and appropriate project solutions.

We are seeking an expereinced Ecologist to join our team in this senior role. The position provides opportunities to work as part of a large team of diverse and experienced professionals throughout NSW and Australia. The opportunity will see you as a senior member of our growing team as you enjoy the chance to support diverse projects as part of a passionate team.

The role will see you: 

  • Carrying out field based botanical survey work, including application of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM)
  • Delivering biodiversity values and constraints assessments, impact and offset assessments and monitoring and management services related to project approvals and natural area management
  • Biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting for high profile major projects
  • Assessment of Stewardship sites and preparation of Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements
  • Provision of advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways
  • Preparing proposals and technical reports for clients
  • Managing and delivering projects on time and within budget and to required quality standards
  • Maintaining relationships with clients and regulatory agencies and other stakeholders
  • Assisting in training of junior staff in NSW plant species and plant community identification

What would you bring to the team? 

  • Significant experience as a professional Ecologist coupled with relevant tertiary qualifcations
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) including experience preparing Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs), Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment
  • Reports (BSSARs) and/or Biodiversity Certification Assessment Reports (BCARs)
  • Demonstrated high level experience in botanical survey and vegetation management and experience in the application of the BAM
  • Demonstrated skills in plant species, plant community type and threatened ecological community identification
  • Knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth regulatory frameworks and policy with respect to biodiversity assessment, offsetting and management
  • Ability to undertake fieldwork throughout NSW in various environments and sometimes remote locations
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills who builds rapport with stakeholders
  • A current NSW drivers licence
