The Minerals & Energy Branch is a dynamic work unit that provides a high standard of service to the NLC’s constituents. The Minerals & Energy Branch is responsible for a substantial portfolio of minerals and energy projects, including management of the NLC’s statutory and other functions in relation to the minerals and energy sectors.
The principal objectives of the Senior Project Officer role is to facilitate and assist traditional Aboriginal owners and native title holders in relation to minerals and energy projects. Key tasks include the provision of information and undertaking consultations and technical assessments related to environmental, social and cultural impacts.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or at least five years’ experience in a similar role, with knowledge and understanding of environmental management systems and principles is essential. Previous experience working for Indigenous organisations, government or within the minerals and energy or environmental sectors is desirable.
Applicants must possess strong computer, administrative, planning and budgeting skills, and knowledge of the minerals and energy sectors and relevant legislation. You will use your knowledge of technical matters, Aboriginal culture and your high-level communication skills and professionalism to effectively consult with Aboriginal people.
Travel to remote areas using 4WD vehicles is involved so possession of a driver’s licence and the ability to safely drive 4WD drive vehicles is essential.
