These roles are an amazing opportunity to work as a Ranger within the National Parks and Wildlife Service and enjoy the adventure of working in an outback community. This is the ideal role if you have a genuine interest in contributing to the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage values of parks.

  • 2 roles available: 1 x ongoing, 1 x 12 month temporary
  • The roles are located in Bourke
  • Starting salary of $63,672 + 17% loading (weekends & pub hol) + super
  • Successful candidates may be eligible for remote area allowance

About the roles

Rangers provide effective management of natural, historic and Aboriginal heritage by undertaking, coordinating and supervising projects, environmental assessments, visitor and stakeholder liaison, and field-based activities including bushfire management and law enforcement.

The roles involve a diverse range of work and you’ll be relied upon to utilise your strong project management skills to plan and implement a range of initiatives such as visitor experiences, ecological restoration, bushfire management and weed and animal pest control.  This rewarding role is suited to those who are comfortable working closely with traditional owners and Aboriginal Joint Management and working within a small team environment.

Essential criteria of the roles:

  • A degree or equivalent relevant to the field operations of the Agency.
  • The role is physically demanding and the requirements of a specific medical will need to be met (includes a task based physical assessment), with a clearance to undertake the firefighting task-based fitness test which must be met to at least a moderate level.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and ability to operate four-wheel-drive vehicles.
  • Required to obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
  • Willingness to fly in light aircraft and preparedness and ability to be involved in incident management duties including firefighting.

A recruitment pool may be created for ongoing and temporary roles of the same role or role type that may become available for filling over the next eighteen months.
